FREED - Diggz

Diggz delves into the relationship between music and mental health by talking with those best qualified to know - the doctors of the music world - DJ's!
Guests include Global legends Jazzy Jeff, Krust, Trevor Nelson & David Morales. Diggz asks what brought them to music, explores their musical journey, and why what they do resonates with them and so many people.

Freed is musical therapy with a cool edge - mood music for your Sunday nights.
Diggz serves up new and classic Neo Soul, funk, rare grooves, hip hop, folk and electronic vibes from Bristol and around the world. Expect a mix of music, chat, and live performances from guest artists & DJ's

Over the last 25 years Diggz has worked for some of the biggest media companies in the UK including BBC Radio 1 & 1xtra, ITV Network, MTV & the Global Radio Group. He also DJ’d and held residencies at some of the biggest club nights and festivals across Europe including several appearances on Glastonbury's Dance Stage, a 10 Year stint at the legendary Southport Weekender and twice broadcasting live to the nation on Radio 1 NYE gigs.

His first break came on Bristol’s Galaxy Radio back in the early 90’s where he presented their first R’n’B chart show called Soul Power for five years. At Galaxy, he was responsible for interviewing some of the biggest artists including Snoop Dogg, Notorious BIG, Aaliyah, Mary J Blige, Wu Tang Clan and many more (which you can find on his Mix-Cloud Channel). He also wrote columns and covered features for national magazines

Between 96-98, Diggz worked as Assistant Head of Music at Galaxy 101 and as a result started promoting major R’n’B gigs in Bristol, he also helped shape a specialist programme stream that would go on to help launch the careers on Roni Size, Krust & Way Out West. Whilst working as Assistant Head of Music at Kiss 100 in 1999, he met up with friend Trevor Nelson, who went on to become his manager.

Diggz went on to support Trevor Nelson on his Radio 1 Rhythm Nation Tour in 1999/2000 around the UK and Ireland. In 2001 he supported Trevor Nelson with Radio 1 live from the Ayia Napa Weekend, which is where he was headhunted for his groundbreaking show on 1xtra.

Diggz was part of the original launch team at 1xtra and went on to present his own Soulpower Show prime time on Saturdays for 3 Years, during that time he also held presented the Friday night 1xtra Presents slot on Radio 1.

In 2003 he launched his own label random records as he was disappointed with the music he was being sent and was voted on to the board at AIM, an organisation that represents the interests of 200 independent uk labels and helped pioneer the digital music movement.

In 2008 Diggz took time out of the music industry to start a family and form a career in digital transformation working for the likes of the University of Oxford, the Arts Council, National Trust and more recently the NHS and Met office.

He has been writing a book called Freed, about the perils of the music industry and balancing it with the modern-day anxiety that we are all riddled with. During the Covid lockdown Diggz finally got the space to dive back into the mix and he has been producing a series called Mood mixes on his Mix-Cloud channel, he is also working on returning to the club scene and hopefully more time on the national airwaves.
